Iain Christie
Iain is a barrister, mediator, facilitator, coach, and professional actor. He designs and delivers experiential learning in leadership, communication skills, negotiation, conflict resolution, storytelling, improvisation, networking and business development. He is a certified professional Imago facilitator and Dare to Lead facilitator and uses his acting training to make his workshops an immersive and interactive experience.
After obtaining a law degree at Durham University, Iain was called to the bar by the Inner Temple where he is now a Bencher. He spent the first ten years of his professional career in HM Diplomatic Service representing the UK at the European Court of Human Rights and in international treaty negotiations. Having been part of the team that drafted the Human Rights Act he returned to private practice in 2000 to the media law chambers 5RB where he co-founded the leading textbook The Law of Privacy and the Media. He is now a member of the Mediation Group at 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square and CEDR panel member. He briefly went back into Government service as the Lord Chancellor’s Policy Fellow between 2020 – 2022 and was, until recently, the Chair of the Bar Standards Board Independent Decision-making Body. He is also a specialist member of the Parole Board.
Iain can be found at the theatre, travelling or on the golf course. He was once ranked eight hundred and thirty something in the world at Racketlon – a combination of tennis, badminton, squash and table tennis. He has also sung with the London Symphony Chorus and has Grade VIII on the piano. He really shouldn’t be doing any of this as he’s recently become a father again (after a 20 year gap)!
