Drafting Directions Training

How to draft proposed directions

Overview

This e-learning course provides guidance and tips for drafting directions in a civil litigation matter.

You can choose whether to view tips for drafting directions on the Fast Track or the Multi-Track. As you work through the course there are links to relevant sections of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).

At the conclusion of the course you can then download a PDF with a helpful checklist.

Outcomes

Once litigation is underway and an appropriate track (Fast or Multi) is allocated by the court, directions for the management of the case will need to be drafted and agreed by the parties.

Directions are there to ensure that all matters and deadlines relating to a case are known to all parties (Claimants and Defendants) as well as the court prior to a full court hearing.

As a result of completing the course, you will know:

  • what Directions are
  • where to find the CPR governing Directions for the different tracks
  • what information you need to gather before you start drafting
  • how to plan your draft
  • how to draft clear deadlines
  • the importance of cross checking with the Directions Questionnaire
