SRA Standards and Regulations
Overview
On 25 November 2019 the SRA Standards and Regulations replaced the SRA Handbook. There are now seven Principles instead of ten, and two codes of conduct, one for Individuals and one for Firms.
Our Standards and Regulations e-learning course provides everything solicitors, and support staff, need to know to make sure they fully understand their obligations under the new regime.
Outcomes
As a result of completing this course you will know:
- The seven new Principles for solicitors and law firms
- Your duties under the new Code for Individuals
- Your firm's duties under the new Code for Firms
- What has changed from the old 2011 Solicitors' Handbook
- How the Solicitors Regulation Authority will enforce the new Standards and Regulations
- Your reporting duties under the new regime
This SRA Standards and Regulations training will ensure that all employees of a regulated law firm will have knowledge of the standards, and so remain compliant in their activities.

Course Content
The SRA Standards and Regulations came into force in November 2019. Applying to all regulated law firms and solicitors, these Standards and Regulations replace the previous 2011 SRA Handbook.
Our training includes:
- An overview of the new regime
- The new Principles
- The Code of Conduct for Individuals
- The Code of Conduct for Law Firms
- A Quiz on the new SRA standards
SRA Standards and Regulations Changes
The course covers the major changes from the old SRA Handbook and how these may effect your activities.
- A new principle of honesty – how does it work alongside the principle of integrity?
- A new duty not to waste the court's time.
- Reinforced duties for supervisors in relation to the work and competence of their teams.
- Changes to the exceptions to the duty of disclosure to clients.
- Reporting obligations which may (or may not) be satisfied by notifying your Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP).
- A new duty to take remedial action if a client suffers loss or harm when things go wrong.
- A time limit for providing prescribed information to clients when a complaint has not been resolved to their satisfaction.
