Supervising Trainee Solicitors Training
How to manage trainee solicitors
Overview
This course is ideal for anyone responsible for supervising a trainee solicitor.
It looks at setting expectations, delegating effectively, and giving feedback that actually makes a difference. As well as covering possible problem areas, the course also explains the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) requirements for supervisors.
In short, you'll learn how to get the best from your trainees, and how to contribute as they develop into your firm's next generation of lawyers.
Trainee Solicitor Supervisor Requirements
From 25 November 2019 the requirements for supervising trainees comes via the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations and SRA Education, Training and Assessment Provider Regulations.
It is defined that trainee solicitors should work in various areas of law, including both contentious and non-contentious work types.
Trainees can be supervised by numerous different people within a law firm or in-house legal department, including partners, managers, other solicitors or experienced Chartered Legal Executives (CILEx).
A trainee solicitor supervisor is responsible for giving trainees practical day-to-day training as well as opportunities to develop a knowledge of the law and their legal skills. It is a huge responsibility and you should have a thorough understanding of the function and duties of an authorised supervisor.
